2021 LSETF/USADF Employability Training Programme

The employability partnership with the United States African Development Programme (USADF) is targeted at equipping 3,000 Lagos residents, between the ages of 18-35years with industry relevant skills, annually, for a period of five years. The project will achieve this through the provision of skills development training that will last between 4-12 weeks, and will ensure the placement of a minimum of 50% of the beneficiaries in Internships/jobs.

Requirements
Must be a Lagos resident
Must have a Lagos State Resident Registration Agency ID (LASRRA ID – can be gotten at any LGA office)
Must have a minimum of JSSCE qualification
** All applicants will be required to go through a screening process to determine their eligibility for the training.

2021 Startupbootcamp AfriTech iNOVO Business Accelerator Programme

Are you a startup based in Nigeria, looking to scale your business by taking part in one of the most intense virtual 3 month programmes?

Introducing iNOVO by UK-Nigeria Tech Hub Powered by Ventures Platform and Startupbootcamp AfriTech.

This programme will accelerate early stage startups in Nigeria that are solving challenges resulting from the Covid19 Pandemic, specifically in EdTech, AgriTech and HealthTech. We are looking for startups with innovative, out of the box solutions, ideally having achieved some traction and ready to scale.

Through this 3-month online programme, 10 selected startups will receive capacity building, lean startup training, mentorship and support to rapidly scale their products and business models. SBC will provide the complete programme through the Accelerator Squared platform, which provides a rich learning and collaboration platform where founders can engage with the SBC and Ventures Platform team, dedicated Entrepreneurs in Residence, mentors, investors, and industry experts.

Teams will validate their solutions and perfect their pitching skills.  The 3 month programme ends with an online Demo Day which will give each team exposure to a broad audience of investors and corporate and government partners.

UnionX Innovation Challenge: A New Discovery

The Covid-19 pandemic has changed the world as we know it, setting the stage for innovators and creative thinkers to take the lead in developing groundbreaking solutions for unprecedented challenges.

As we push through the “new normal” towards a “better normal”, businesses are looking for cutting-edge solutions that will set them apart in an increasingly competitive and complex environment.

If you are an entrepreneur in Nigeria with an exciting technology-focused Minimum Viable Product (MVP) then this is your time! Union Bank is hosting the fourth edition of the Innovation Challenge, UnionX, themed A New Discovery.

This challenge is open to innovative and creative entrepreneurs with solutions that have the potential to transform sectors that include but are not limited to Financial Technology, E-Commerce, Health, Education and Agriculture.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Early-stage startups in Nigeria, with a business registered in Nigeria and an available, innovative Minimum Viable Product (MVP) that has the potential to transform sectors that include but are not limited to Financial Technology, E-Commerce, Health, Education and Agriculture are invited to apply.
  • The top 3 MVPs will receive cash prizes from Union Bank and incubation support by GreenHouse Capital, while fully engaging with Union Bank.

Prizes

The best ideas will gain access to Union Bank’s network and its value chain to further develop their solution and scale. The top 3 startups will receive cash prizes of 2 million Naira, 1.5 Million Naira, and 1 million Naira respectively coupled with a 2-month incubation program.

The top 3 startups will also be supported with product development, distribution and business modelling geared towards potential integration to the Bank.

In addition, access to partners and mentors, alongside access to Union Bank’s customer base and employee expertise will be enjoyed by the winners.

2021 Fully Funded JSPS–UNU Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme in Japan

Jointly organised by the United Nations University and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), the JSPS–UNU Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme is designed to provide promising, highly qualified, young researchers with the opportunity to conduct advanced research in sustainability in co-operation with host researchers at Japanese universities and research institutions.

The UNU Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS, Tokyo) acts as the nominating authority for the JSPS–UNU Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme. This fellowship is aimed at candidates who have completed their doctorates in the past six years and also have professional and/or research experience. UNU-IAS will assist in securing acceptance from host researchers for shortlisted candidates.

Fellowships are awarded for a period of 24 months. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree (received on or after 2 April 2014) when the fellowship begins, or be scheduled to receive a doctoral degree before the fellowship begins. Japanese nationals are not eligible, nor are those of dual nationality if one is Japanese. In addition, those who have permanent residency in Japan are not eligible. Those who have previously been awarded a Standard or Pathway Fellowship under the JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship for Research in Japan are not eligible.

Terms of the Award

  1. A round-trip air ticket (based on JSPS regulations)
  2. A monthly maintenance allowance of JPY362,000
  3. A settling-in allowance of JPY200,000 (based on JSPS regulations)
  4. Overseas travel, accident, and sickness insurance coverage, etc.

Notes:

  • The amounts of the awards indicated above are subject to change by JSPS.
  • In the case that a Fellow is already residing in Japan before his/her fellowship starts or obtains resident status before his/her fellowship is designated to begin, the above-mentioned air ticket to Japan and settling-in allowance will not be provided.
  • A research grant, “Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research”, is available to cover cooperative research-related expenses. Application for these grants is made by the host researcher through his/her institution.

JSPS–UNU Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme 2021

Under this programme fellows conduct research relevant to one or more of the main thematic focus areas of UNU-IAS: sustainable societies, natural capital & biodiversity, and global change & resilience.

Research proposals for JSPS–UNU Postdoctoral Fellowships should relate clearly to one of the specific research areas of UNU-IAS listed below. The proposed research must be policy-relevant and incorporate gender issues within the research agenda:

  • Water and Resource Management
  • Innovation and Education
  • Biodiversity and Society
